Time to go fishing in Ireland

Ireland is recognised as being the outstanding fishing holiday destination in Europe. The vast variety and quality of fishing in Ireland makes it the perfect destination for your angling holiday.  Many Irish people enjoy fishing but they are happy to share their "riches" with their fellow anglers from all over the world. Few of them, however, fish for coarse fish (freshwater species other than the salmon and trout family) which means that the magnificent pike, bream, tench, roach, rudd and eel fisheries are largely left to the tourist, as is much of the sea angling, particularly along the south and west coasts.

A couple of weeks ago we met Shane O’Reilly of the Inland Fisheries Ireland at one of the Angling shows in Europe and we asked him some questions about the Irish fishing permits you need, which species of fish you can catch and where you can find the best fishingspots.
